Basics

Getting Started: Troop 1 Basics

When is a good time to get started?

NOW! We go year-round. A boy can become a scout at anytime. If you have an interest in learning more, or joining us, contact us by filling out our Contact Us form, emailing us, or just show up at one of our meetings.

When do we meet?

Troop Meetings are generally held on Mondays from 7:15pm to 9:00pm. Keep in mind that we don't meet on holidays like Memorial Day or Labor Day. To verify meeting times, you can check the calendar here.

Where do we meet?

Abington Presbyterian Church. You can find us in the Scout Room, which is located at the corner of Adams Avenue and Church Street.

What is the Cost of Joining?

Annual dues help to cover the costs of scouting. Scouts who transfer from another troop, or cross over from Cub Scouts pay a $1 transfer fee, plus pro-rated dues. If you need assistance, just talk to the Committee Chair. It is important that boys participate, and financial constraints shouldn't be a concern.

What about uniforms?

Check out the Uniforms page. You will need to purchase uniform items, but they should be good for several years (especially shirts, pants, and hiking boots... as long as your son doesn't outgrow these things every other week). We do have a uniform exchange, so that helps with keeping costs down.

How much do trips cost?

On average, trips have generally cost $25 per Scout, and $15.00 per adult unless otherwise noted... that includes you, as we hope you'll participate too. Again, if you need assistance, just talk to the Committee Chair.

What about parent involvement?

We want all parents to help out! We welcome scout parents at troop meetings and on all trips. We encourage family participation in special events throughout the year. And... we would love to have you become involved as an event Chair or Co-Chair, Merit Badge Counselor, Committee Member, or Leader.
